V soboto 15. 6. smo si ogledali dve različni lokaciji. Sprva smo si ogledali Državni kulturni rezervat »Kernave«. in nato še mesto Trakai. Hišice niso bile kaj dosti prostorne, vendar so bile spodobne in preproste. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Saturday we have visited two different locations. At first we went ahead and visited the state cultural reserve of »Kernave«. And right after the town of Trakai. Kernave We have started our day with a bus ride, which led us to the cultural reserve, where we have learned a lot about the history of this country. At first we were waking a wide straight road, yet we turned left and were met with a statue o fan iron wolf. This statue signifies the coming of better times and a need for change to the locals. People raised settlements and have resisted the communist regimes in its name. I will mention a statue of Moses as well. Moses is depicted holding the ten commandements. There are also two smaller statues, made out of wood, which touch upon religious subjects.Behind the statue lies a massive church, which wasn't operating at that time. We paid more attention to the surrounding hills. Those were important to the local residents 600 years ago, before they got conquered by the Teutonic oder, which was plotting its revenge. Hence why we know so much about this place. The first hill was a base to a tower, which had a task of signalling in case o fan attack. The second one held a small defensive fort. The third one was a home to a powerful ruler, whom was mighty in battle and kind to his subjects. The fourth one was an important religious site to the pagans. Before departure we also took notice of a replica of an early pagan town. Its buildings were simple, yet practical. Said homes also held objects. Those ranged from primitive beds made out of furs to tables and tools. There was also some staples near by. Trakai Trakai is a town roughly 1 hour of driving away from Kernav. At first we took a look at an old fire fighter building, which served to protect the towns residence from a fire. We also took a look at the first foretress. It used to have a defensive moat, but it was filled in later on. This building was abbandoned after the teutonic victory and an attempt at converting it into a monestary had been made. Yet it had never been finished and stayed that way. A townhall was just a short distance away from there. It served as a place for important meetings and discussions. The second fort/castle was much taller and wider. It had a mighty wall and was situated upon an island. We also had a pause, which lasted for about a few hours. I personally spent that time observing the lake itself. At last we went to a restaurant, where we could create our own »Kernave«. This is a specialty of this country. Its alike to crossaint, but has meat inside and a different way of production. After the meal it was time to head back and end the day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Friday night we went to the center, where there were cultural events all over the city. We watched some performances of the street musician and the expressive dance. In Lithuanian art museum there was a lot of interesting paintings in the gallery. The ones the exhibit focused on were based on a medieval painting style, but also really colourful and extremely full of life. All of them had a lot of interconnecting elements or separate events portrayed on the canvas, each also featuring a really exciting aesthetic. We also went to the concert with traditional music and watched a performance of a street theatre. More pictures you will find in the gallery.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Thursday from 9.00 to 14.35 we had class and after that we went to sport center next to the shopping center Ozas. There was waiting our trainer for the day, Muay Thai champion Ričardas Kulis Kulis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4E-LD6OQWOY ). He showed us the basic of martial arts and it was 90 minutes of pure fun. It was something new and very interesting. After the training some of us stayed there and did some more training others went to shopping center or home. ___________________________________________________________ Today we woke up as usually at half past eight. At eight, we went to have a breakfast and after that we went to school. Unlike yesterday, we were more diligent today and worked harder. After class, we went to a city where we saw the characteristics of the city with a guide. The most memorable was the cathedral, it is a huge building with high and thick columns. In front of it there is some board on which you step on three times and then jump three more times. After that, a mysterious desire should come true. The city reminds me very much of the Italian cities because they copied the architecture from Italy a lot. We also saw a wall in which there are many artworks and each has some significance, e.g. print of a hand on which you place your hand and promise that you will once again visit Lithuania. After visiting the city, we just went for dinner where we ordered typical Lithuanian dishes. Because it was outside 35 degrees, which is very unusual for Lithuania, where the usual temperatures are around 25 degrees at that time, and because we were already very tired, we decided to spend the rest of the day in the rooms and then walk to McDonalds later on foot. The evening ended with writing reports and this blog.
